Britam stock candlestick chart following its H1 2026 earnings repor

Britam stock slipped by 1.85% today, August 28, to trade at KSh18.55 at the time of writing despite the insurer reporting a 53.3% increase in profit after tax to KSh2.66 billion for the first half of 2026.

The shares opened at KSh18.90, which was also the session high, before falling to an intraday low of KSh18.50. The muted market reaction contrasted with Britam’s financial results, which showed stronger insurance earnings and a larger contribution from associated companies.

Stronger Insurance Result Lifts Britam Profit

Britam’s profit before tax increased 52% from KSh2.51 billion to KSh3.82 billion during the six months ended June 30. Earnings per share rose to KSh1.05 from KSh0.68, reflecting the improvement in profit attributable to shareholders.

Insurance revenue grew 13.7% to KSh22.39 billion from KSh19.69 billion. The insurance service result rose 36% to KSh1.76 billion, supported by growth across the life and general insurance businesses and lower net expenses from reinsurance contracts.

The combined insurance and investment result increased 63% to KSh4.25 billion from KSh2.61 billion. Britam also received KSh573.5 million as its share of profit from associated companies, up from KSh355.6 million in H1 2025.

The improvement came despite higher costs. Insurance service expenses increased 30.7% to KSh19.75 billion, while other operating expenses climbed 53.8% to KSh1.91 billion.

Britam’s balance sheet also strengthened. Total assets increased 11.1% to KSh270.84 billion, supported by a 10.2% rise in investment assets to KSh249.82 billion. Total equity grew 7.2% to KSh37.57 billion, although liabilities also increased 11.8% to KSh233.28 billion.

Britam’s results come amid a wider recovery in Kenyan equities. As Blockmara reported on the NSE stock-market rally, listed companies added KSh1.05 trillion in market value during the first seven months of 2026.

Other financial-services companies have also posted stronger earnings, with the insurance business highlighted in Blockmara’s Equity Bank stock outlook reporting a 34% increase in profit before tax.

Can Britam Stock Hold Above KSh18.25?

Britam stock remains above KSh18.25, where the 0.618 Fibonacci retracement level aligns with the 20-day Bollinger Band average. This convergence makes KSh18.25 the most important near-term support.

The relative strength index stands at 59.45, above the neutral level of 50 but below overbought territory. This indicates that bullish momentum remains intact despite Friday’s decline. Trading volume of approximately 45,890 shares was also subdued compared with the volume spikes recorded during the July rally, suggesting the decline was not accompanied by aggressive selling.

Immediate resistance sits between KSh18.90 and KSh18.91, where the session high meets the upper Bollinger Band. A decisive close above this zone could allow Britam stock to retest the July swing high of KSh21.90. Clearing KSh21.90 would resume the larger uptrend and expose the KSh27.85 Fibonacci extension.

Conversely, a close below KSh18.25 would weaken the short-term structure and place the lower Bollinger Band at KSh17.59 in focus. A deeper correction below that level could extend towards KSh14.55.

For now, the 1.85% decline appears to be consolidation within the broader uptrend rather than a bearish reversal. The next signal will depend on whether Britam stock holds KSh18.25 and converts the KSh18.90 area into support.
